Edgar Campground
Free camping Edgar Campground, Edgar Dam Lake Pedder, Strathgordon Southwest National Park Tasmania. Free bush camping with basic facilities in the magnificent Southwest National Park Tasmania. The Edgar campground is suitable for big rigs including motorhomes, caravans, camper trailers, caravans, and tent-based camping. Please note, however, that the road into Edgar Campground off Gordon Road is gravel for a distance of 35 kilometres. After heavy rain or snow, the road and campsite can become muddy and slippery, and strong winds are common. There are 20 individual camping locations at the Edgar Campground Lake Pedder, and all are non-powered. There is a day-use picnic area with shelter at the Edgar camping area. Water is available; however, it must be treated before drinking. Boiling water for 10-minutes before drinking is recommended. There are good, clean composting toilets at the Edgar Campground. There are fireplaces scattered through the Edgar Dam campground, and wood is provided at the Edgar Campground free of charge. Do not cut down trees or branches under any circumstances. Dogs are strictly prohibited and the area is patrolled by Rangers. A valid National Parks Pass is required and must be clearly displayed at all times. Fines may be issued if you don’t have a valid National Parks Pass. This is a beautiful part of Tasmania, with stunning scenery everywhere you look. Please note that the weather conditions at Edgar Dam and Lake Pedder can be very changeable and harsh at any time of the year, but particularly during Winter where heavy snow, strong winds, and constant rain are common. You can fish for trout in Lake Pedder, which is an artificial lure only Lake. Any person 14 years and older must have a valid fishing license to fish for trout in Tasmania.
