Camping Mayfield Beach
Camping Mayfield Bay Coastal Reserve, this campground is a small conservation area app. 15 minutes drive south of Swansea on the East Coast of Tasmania. Mayfield free camping Swansea is approximately a 90-minute drive north-east of Hobart. Mayfield Beach’s sandy beach and the coastal area offers excellent free camping, fishing, swimming, surfing, snorkelling and diving. Please note that whilst there are no formal charges, a donation is requested using the donation box onsite. Donations help greatly in maintaining these excellent conditions. There are great views from this campsite across to Great Oyster Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula. The reserve offers shade and has good toilet facilities but you will need to bring your own drinking water and all camping gear. Mayfield BayCoastal Reserve free camping Swansea is a great spot to break your journey when travelling from Hobart up the east coast north to St. Helens, Scamander and Bicheno or south to Triabunna, Little Swanport, Orford, Sorell or Hobart. A little further north from the Mayfield Beach free camping area Swansea you will find the convict-built Spiky Bridge, which is an unusual looking bridge built in the 1840s by convicts. There is room for large campervans, motorhomes or other big rigs and there is also a boat ramp if you are into fishing. If you are into swimming and surfing there is an excellent beach with good snorkelling and diving opportunities. Bring your own firewood; there are no showers or drinking water. Dogs OK, but must be on leads at all times.
Swansea is a small coastal seaside village that grows massively in size during busier summer months and school holiday periods. Swansea has shops, an IGA supermarket, bakery, online access centre and is a major tourist destination offering a number of attractions and excellent eateries. While camping at Mayfield Beach, at dusk if you walk along the beach you may see seals or penguins. Mayfield Bay Conservation Reserve is a popular campsite with Tasmanians. What a magic spot this is, great for families and good clean toilets. We walked along the beach, and the kids paddled in the water. Spend 3 nights here in our caravan in an elevated position and loved it. It's a short drive into Swansea if you need food or other supplies. Can't wait to go back.
