Camping Tooms Lake
Tooms Lake free campground, central Tasmania close towns of Ross and Oatlands suitable all forms of camping, dogs ok on leads and under control at all times. Bush camping, basic pit toilets only and no other facilities. Campers must carry their own fresh water, and obey all signs including not camping in areas designated as no camping, near shacks and near the boat ramp. There are no costs to camp at Tooms Lake, no bookings can be made and all sites are unpowered. The Tooms Lake campground can be challenging during colder Winter months, with snow, strong winds and heavy rain is common. There are clearly designated camping areas at Tooms Lake, and that offer beautiful views of the lake. Fish for brown trout and rainbow Trout Tooms Lake – a valid Tasmanian trout fishing license is required for all persons aged 14 years and older. You can fish from the shore, a boat or kayak. Tooms Lake is located approximately 42 km east of Ross and can be accessed from Ross via the C305 or York Plains via the C307. Tooms Lake lies within the Tooms Lake Conservation area managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania. The Northern Midlands Council manages the shack village and campground. Trout are stocked at Tooms Lake by Inland Fisheries Tasmania. Tooms Lake has a reputation as a good early season fishing lake due to its low elevation. Depending on having favourable conditions and water levels, fishing can be rewarding throughout the season. Wet and dry fly fishing, trolling, lure casting and set rod bait fishing are all popular methods of fishing at Tooms Lake. The trout fishing season at Tooms Lake is from the first Saturday in August to the Sunday nearest the 30th April.
