Springlawn Campground
Nestled within the beautiful Narawntapu National Park on Tasmania’s north coast, Springlawn Campground is the park’s main camping area and an excellent base for exploring beaches, wetlands and abundant native wildlife. Location
Springlawn Campground is located inside Narawntapu National Park, approximately:
- 25 minutes from Port Sorell
- 35 minutes from Devonport
- Around 1 hour 20 minutes from Launceston
The campground is reached via Bakers Beach Road and is well signposted from the Bass Highway.

Springlawn is the best-equipped campground within Narawntapu National Park and caters for a variety of camping styles.

A valid Tasmania National Parks Pass is also required to enter Narawntapu National Park.
Bookings
Unlike many campgrounds around Australia, Springlawn Campground does not require bookings for individual campers. Camping operates on a first come, first served basis.
Bookings are generally accepted only for large school groups.
If you arrive after the Visitor Centre has closed, you can use the convenient self-registration system located at the Visitor Centre (cash is required for after-hours registration).
Are Pets Allowed – Strictly NO
Dogs and other pets are not permitted within Narawntapu National Park to protect native wildlife and sensitive ecosystems. The only exception is for approved assistance animals.

Springlawn Campground is perfectly positioned for exploring the national park. Popular activities include:
- Walking to Bakers Beach
- Wildlife spotting, especially at dawn and dusk

- Exploring nearby walking tracks including the Springlawn Nature Walk and Archers Knob Track.
Wildlife
Narawntapu National Park is often referred to as Tasmania’s “Serengeti” because of the abundance of native animals found across its grasslands.
You may encounter:
- Forester kangaroos
- Common wombats
- Bennett’s wallabies
- Pademelons
- Echidnas
- Native birds including black swans, ducks and sea eagles
The best wildlife viewing is usually early in the morning or around sunset.
Please note that snakes are common during warmer months and should never be approached.
Nearby Services
The nearest fuel, supermarket and other supplies are available at Port Sorell, around 25 minutes away. The Visitor Centre also sells a small range of snacks, drinks, bait, ice and souvenirs.
