Stumpys 1 Campground
Campground Stumpys Number 1, Mt William National Park, North East coast Tasmania, spectacular coastal setting no bookings, all sites unpowered with good shade and shelter and suitable all forms of camping including motorhomes, campervans, camper-trailers, caravans and tent camping. Strictly NO Dogs. Camping fees are payable, and you must also have a valid National Parks Pass to camp at Stumpys 1 Mt William. The road to Stumpys Bay campsites from the Forester Kangaroo Drive will take you first to Stumpys 1, where fees for this campground and for other campgrounds in the Mt William National Park are paid. If you continue on past Stumpys number 1, you will reach Stumpys 2, Stumpys 3 and Stumpys 4, plus the start of the 5-hour return bushwalk to the top of Mt William. Prices to camp at any of the campsites at Stumpys Bay are $13 per night ($50 per week) for one or two people, $5 per night ($20 per week) for an extra adult, $2.50 per night ($10 per week) for an extra child age 5-17 (younger children are free) and $16 per night ($70 per week) for a family of two adults and three children. To access, drive on the Tasman Highway (A3), 42 kilometres east of Scottsdale and 56 kilometres northwest of St. Helens to Gladstone Road (B82). Turn north and follow signs for Mount William National Park. Drive 25 kilometres to the small settlement of Gladstone and turn right on Carr Street / Cape Portland Road, where you will see excellent signs directing you to Mt William. Drive two kilometres when the road becomes dirt and continue on to Browns Ridge Road/Musselroe Bay Road, before driving for a further 15 kilometres before entering the national park and the start of Forester Kangaroo Drive. Turn right and take this scenic dirt road for 8 km to a turnoff for Stumpys Bay Campground Number 1. There is a large population of marsupials in the Mt William National Park including wombats, Forester kangaroos, Tasmanian pademelons and wallabies, especially in the area along Forester Drive. Birdlife is also rich and varied, with app. 100 species recorded in the park including wedge-tailed and sea eagles.
