Teds Beach Campground
Teds Beach Campground, free camping Lake Pedder Teds Beach is of 3 free camping areas in the Southwest National Park, Strathgordon Lake Pedder Camping Tasmania. The others are Edgar Campground and Huon Campground. Both Edgar Campground and Huon Campground are accessed off Scotts Peak Road (C607), with the turnoff well signposted some 43 kilometres before Teds Beach camping area and the small township of Strathgordon. Teds Beach Campground is accessible via sealed Gordon River Road (B61) near Strathgordon and is signposted. Teds Beach is only 300 metres off Gordon Road, down a gravel driveway. There is a boat ramp, clean male and female toilets, non-treated drinking water, picnic facilities, free electric barbecues and a large shelter. Strictly fuel stoves only. There is no charge to camp at Teds Beach; the area is generally not suited to tent-based camping, but you can find 2 or 3 very small areas where you could pitch a small 2-3 man tent. Tent camping isn’t recommended – the ground is hard and the weather conditions can be very harsh. We recommend camping in a campervan, camper-trailer, motorhome or caravan. Teds Beach campground is located right on the shore of magnificent Lake Pedder, app. 3 kilometres before Strathgordon, at the north-western end of Lake Pedder. An upper section is mostly level but doesn’t have lake views. The rest of the Teds Beach Campground has varying views over the lake but is sloped. NO DOGS are allowed in National Parks in Tasmania. Please note there is no mobile phone coverage in this part of Tasmania. Please leave the facilities clean, place rubbish in the bins provided and leave no trace. The most popular camping location at Teds Beach, Lake Pedder is to drive your vehicle carefully onto Ted’s Beach, and well back from the water’s edge. A valid Tasmanian National Parks Pass is required and must be clearly displayed. The area is patrolled by Rangers and fines may be issued if you aren’t in possession of a valid pass.
