Waratah Campground
One of the joys of staying at the Waratah Campground is the opportunity to see a Platypus at dawn or dusk in the large lake that adjoins this beautiful campsite. This campground at Waratah is accessed by heading South West from Burnie on the B18 for a distance of approximately 55 kilometres. At the intersection with the A10, turn right and then travel on the B23 for 7 kilometres until you reach Waratah. This campsite is well-signposted, turn left at the Waratah Caravan Park sign and follow a track on the right to the back of the park. The Waratah camping Tasmania area offers both unpowered grassed tent sites as well as powered flat caravan sites. The park is convenient to shops, hotel, the museum and within walking distance to the magnificent Waratah Falls. Waratah is close to trout lakes, bushwalking tracks, waterfalls, gold panning, mine tours, the Pieman River cruises. Cradle Mountain is only a 50 minutes’ drive from Waratah, making it an ideal base to explore the west coast. Savage River is also close, and the beautiful small town of Corinna around 60kms or a 1-hour 20-minute drive away from the Waratah Campground. A deposit of $5.00 is required for the key at this campsite, which gives you access to the showers and toilets. Camping fees for a powered site are $28, an unpowered site is $22, facilities only is $16. Self-contained vehicles are $6 per night. For bushwalkers, there is a choice of walks close to the town of Waratah including the popular Philosopher Falls Track. There is also a 9-hole golf course, and fishermen can fish for trout in a well-stocked lake.
