Hamilton Camping

Listing Details

Hamilton is located some 75 kilometres North West of Hobart, on the Lyell Highway that connects the state capital Hobart to Strahan and Queenstown on the West Coast of Tasmania. This is an attractive campground beside the Clyde River, and very affordable at AUD $10 per night for a maximum stay of 7 nights. Bookings are not possible, all camping is on a first come, first serve basis. There is a self-registration system in operation. At the Hamilton Campground, you will find a barbecue and picnic table with shelter, toilets, showers, and a laundromat. Pets on leads are OK. This camping area in Hamilton is suitable for all forms of camping from a single swag to big rigs. Take your time and explore the history of this quaint little town. Try a coffee from a local cafe or a great counter meal from the Hamilton Pub which adjoins the campground. There is a dump point at the Hamilton campground. More information - Central Highlands Council.

Hamilton was once a busy frontier town containing many hotels and several working breweries. Today it has only a few small shops and buildings, such as the courthouse, many of them dating back to convict times. It is a great stop if you are taking your time to travel from the West Coast of Tassie to Hobart, or vice versa.
