Camping Trial Harbour
Trial Harbour is a small settlement west of Zeehan on the West Coast of Tasmania located in the northern part of Ocean Beach, Tasmania. Trial Harbour is exposed and a particularly vulnerable anchorage, susceptible to extreme winds and wild weather from the prevailing weather of the Roaring Forties. The campground at Trial Harbour is located approximately 24 kilometres south of the road to Granville Harbour on the C249. Head west from Zeehan from the well-signed road for a distance of almost 20 kilometres along a windy road. The travel time from Zeehan is app. 30-40 minutes. This road is not suited to large caravans, campervans or motorhomes; similarly, the camping area at Trial Harbour is suitable for small campervans or tent based camping only. When you reach the small settlement of Trial Harbour, follow the coast road to find small grassed campsites, noting there are limited areas for camping. When you reach the bottom of the steep hill that leads you into Trial Harbour (which offers a spectacular view) sign points you towards the camping area to the right. There is a small number only of campsites ranging from open, protected, and one well-protected site with open space and view. For visitors with a 4WD, there is an opportunity to camp further down Ocean Beach, or alongside Little Henty River. Follow the road through the township, and around to the left to locate these sites. Travel a further couple of kilometres where you will see a small pile of bricks to your right. Turn onto the beach here and keep following it south until you reach the river – follow the bank around to the left where you will find several good camping areas. See also: Camping Zeehan
