Camping Chain of Lagoons
Lagoon Beach camping, popular campground Chain of Lagoons East Coast Tasmania close St Helens, St Marys next to a beautiful beach, large camping area suited to all forms of camping including large motorhomes, campervans, camper-trailers and tent camping. Dogs OK if on leads at all times, ranger patrolled – no costs all sites unpowered and can’t be booked. This is a very large campground but fills to overflowing during Christmas New Year holidays, and most of Summer through until Easter. The Lagoons Beach Conservation Area East Coast Tasmania is situated east of the small township of St Marys and North of the A4 Highway and is accessed off the Tasman Highway. Campers at the Lagoons Beach campground, Bay of Lagoons can enjoy a range of activities including bushwalking, swimming, fishing, boating, snorkelling, and diving. Horseriding is permitted in some areas and there is also a 4WD area that has been set aside at Peron Dunes. This coastal location offers visitors to the area opportunities for fishing, swimming, and other watersports. The camping area is set amongst native flora setting shaded by eucalypts; you can camp at Chain of Lagoons for up to 4 weeks at no charge, with only basic facilities on offer including a pit toilet. This area offers some of the best surf fishing areas in Tasmania with Australian Salmon being plentiful in the 2+ kilogram range in and around this campground. To camp at the Chain of Lagoons campground, you will need to carry your own water and firewood and all food. To access, turn off the Tasman Highway into one of 2 access tracks, some 2 km north of the junction between the Tasman Hwy (A3) and the A4 at the base of Elephant Pass. Chain of Lagoons is a long, thin, and attractive coastal strip that has been a reserve since 1961 to preserve a scenic stretch of ocean beach backed by sloping sand dunes, lagoons, and forest glades. Lagoons Beach is home to a wide range of wildlife including black swans and an abundance of nocturnal and native animals – please don’t feed the wildlife under any circumstances.
