Camping Thureau Hills
Thureau Hills camping is free, the maximum stay is one night and it isn’t suitable for tent based camping. Pets are OK, but must be kept under control at all times. There is a chemical toilet, but no other facilities other than a basic shelter and a concrete picnic table. This campsite is popular with fishermen searching that elusive trout in Lake Burbury. No bookings are required, and it is not possible to book. Thureau Hills camping area is signposted along the A10 highways, app. 15 kilometres to the east of the west coast Tasmanian town of Queenstown. Travel for a distance of 3.5 kilometres south until you find the camping area. Please make sure you carry your own water and firewood as facilities at Thureau Hills campground are limited. A concrete boat ramp is located at Thureau Hills. The formal camping area, caravan park and boat ramp are located on the eastern side of the bridge. Boat launching and informal camping are also available near the Darwin Dam at the southern end of the lake. Anglers or other people using this area are encouraged to use a portable chemical toilet. Lake Burbury is one of the larger hydro lakes on the West Coast and is highly regarded by many anglers as one of the best fishing trout spots in Tasmania. Lake Burbury is within close proximity to the township of Queenstown where you can purchase the relevant fishing license.
