Cooee Point Reserve
Cooee is a small coastal town on Tasmania’s north-west coast, immediately west of Burnie, with Bass Strait to the north. It has developed from the former Cooee Creek settlement into what is now essentially a suburb of Burnie, with a mix of residential areas, local shops and industrial activity. The area has a strong connection with the coast and Cooee Creek, while its location makes it a convenient base for exploring Burnie and the wider north-west coast of Tasmania. The name “Cooee” is believed to come from the Aboriginal call “cooee”, which was heard by early European settlers in the area.Free permit-based camping for fully self-contained RVs on the beachfront at Cooee Point Reserve, 2.5km from Burnie. Maximum stay is 2 nights, and a permit is required in advance from Burnie City Council (online or at the Makers’ Workshop / Council offices).

Vehicles must have their own water, toilet and waste water tank. Drinking water, bins and a dump point are on site; the reserve can get very windy.
