Camping Waterhouse Conservation Area
Camping is a very popular activity at the Waterhouse Conservation Area ,with 5 main areas (11 in total) where visitors can camp at no cost. There are no bookings – all camping is on a first come, first serve basis with all campsites very popular and often full during the Christmas / New Year period through to the end of January and again during Easter. You are encouraged to bring gas stoves or barbecues for cooking, and to check local restrictions specific to the use of campfires. Where campfires are permitted, they should be 1 minimum of 3-metres from any overhanging vegetation or trees. You must carry your own firewood, and ensure your campfire is never left unattended and is completely extinguished before you leave. Dogs n leads and under control at all times are permitted. Noting this area has abundant native wildlife, you are required to strictly adhere to the taking of dogs into the Waterhouse Conservation Area. For visitors unfamiliar with the area, and travelling in a motorhome or with a caravan, Waterhouse Point and Ransons Beach campgrounds are recommended.
Fishing is a very popular activity at the Waterhouse Conservation Area. Boats can be launched from signed beach access points at Blizzards Landing boat ramp Homestead Road. The shoreline is a nesting place for many birds and vehicles are permitted on the beach strictly only to launch and retrieve boats. There is a 4WD track extending from the end of Blackmans Lagoon Road to the surf beach which provides vehicular access to the southern part of the reserve. However, please note this is a dangerous 4WD beach with changing conditions and used mainly by people surf fishing who are experienced off road enthusiasts familiar with this part of Tasmania. There is no access north along the beach to South Croppies Point. Please take care with pets and children during summer, as snakes are common at these campgrounds.

The Waterhouse Conservation Area is on the North-East Coast of Tasmania and app. 100 km north-east of Launceston and approximately 40 km east of the popular beachside holiday destination of Bridport. There is a day use area accessed via Homestead Road with camping areas in the north, including access to Big Waterhouse Lake via Big Waterhouse Lake Road. The southern section is called Blackmans Lagoon and is accessed by the Blackmans Lagoon Road off the B52 road. Please avoid driving at night where it is common to find native wildlife on roads – please take it slow and watch out for animals on the road.
