Free Camping Oatlands
Oatlands free camping, camp for up to 72-hours at no cost next to Lake Dulverton, in the historic central midlands town of Oatlands with great facilities and best suited to fully self-contained vehicles, campervans and caravans. There are 2 camping areas; one to the left of the road near the toilets and close to Lake Dulverton and a second overflow area further away from the Lake and near the historic Carrington Mill. Arguably, the overflow area is better as it provides flat, grassed areas with good space. Donations are encouraged to help maintain this campground free of cost. From the free camping area Oatlands, it is a short walk into central Oatlands where you will find shops, cafes, a bakery, petrol and a hotel where you can have a shower at low cost. Oatlands is a small historical village in the centre of Tasmania off the Midlands Hwy, Highway 1, and is located app. 85 km north of Hobart and 114 km south of Tasmania’s biggest Northern city Launceston. As at the 2006 census, Oatlands had a population of just under 550 permanent inhabitants. Oatlands is considered to have the largest number of colonial sandstone buildings in any town in Australia, and many of them were built by convict labour. This free campground, where you can stay for up to 72-hours, is a popular stop between Hobart and Launceston.
