Huon Campground
Huon Campground Lake Pedder, Strathgordon Southwest National Park Tasmania is located some 30 kilometres off the main road to Strathgordon (Gordon River Rd – B61) and is well signposted with the turnoff being some 43 kilometres before Strathgordon on the left as you are driving to Strathgordon. The road to Huon Campground is gravel and is generally in good condition, but can get slippery after snow or heavy rain. The Huon Campground is 7 km past the Edgar Campground which is also accessed from the same turnoff. There are 10 sheltered sites at Huon Campground, with all offering good shelter and privacy. The Huon camping area is located at the end of a 1 km gravel entrance. In this area is the magnificent Scotts Peak Dam, which has a boat ramp which provides access to fish in the world-renowned trout waters of Lake Pedder. It is free to camp at the Huon Campground which has basic, but clean facilities including composting toilets. The Huon campground is suitable for smaller rigs including small caravans, camper trailers, campervans and tent-based camping. Bigger Rigs are better suited to the Edgar Campground. There is a day-use picnic area with shelter at the Huon Campground. Water is available however it must be treated before drinking (boil for at least 10 minutes before drinking). The Huon camping area is not very large and has 10 campsites only. Each campsite has a fire pit and firewood is provided at the Huon Campground free of charge. Dogs are strictly prohibited and the area is patrolled by a Ranger. A valid National Parks Pass is required and must be clearly displayed. The Huon camping area is located in a very spectacular part of Tasmania. However, the weather can change quickly and can be harsh with heavy snow, high winds, and heavy sleeting rain. The Huon Campground is immediately adjacent to the car park for the start of the Port Davey Track. See also Camping Teds Beach – Camping Edgar Dam – Mt Anne Bushwalk
